Honor, duty, and commitment — brought into the therapy room.

Shepherding Hope was built on one clinical conviction: healing begins when your nervous system learns it is finally safe. We pair that with the discipline and integrity of a life spent in service.

Meet Billy R. Gilbert — your North Alabama counselor

Billy is an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) serving North Alabama. Before the counseling room, he gave 18 years to the United States Air Force — a background that shapes every session with steadiness, discipline, and an unshakable respect for those who serve.

Many people arrive at their first session depleted, or unsure where to begin. Life may have felt overwhelming for years, or a sudden event may have shattered a sense of security. In those moments a standard clinical approach isn’t enough — you need a calm, steady space, and the time to settle into it, before healing can take root.

Billy listens with deep intentionality, honoring the unique tapestry of your story and walking beside you at a pace that respects your boundaries. As an SDVOSB-certified (Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business) practice, Shepherding Hope understands service, transition, and the quiet weight many carry long after the mission ends — and honors it with dignity, never slogans.

Clinical Excellence in Huntsville, AL

Rather than a high-volume agency feel, Shepherding Hope Counseling is intentionally structured as a boutique, relationship-centered practice. Every session is designed to provide a specialized, confidential outpatient experience without the rushed pacing common in large institutional settings. We believe professional mental health support should be transparent, accessible, and grounded in clinical excellence—offering the middle-market, affordable outpatient care that Madison County residents deserve.

Our mission

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Galatians 6:2

That verse is the quiet center of Shepherding Hope: to help carry what has become too heavy to hold alone. We do it with clinical rigor and human warmth — and, for those who want it, a gentle faith-integrated lens.

The foundation

The 7 key pillars of care

Seven commitments that hold up every session, every plan, and every relationship.

01

Safety before everything

Healing starts when the nervous system learns it is finally safe. We build that ground first — always.

02

Dignity for those who served

Veteran identity is woven through our care with genuine respect, never slogans or performance.

03

Evidence-based practice

CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and somatic work — validated methods, applied with judgment.

04

Present, never rushed

We listen closely and move at a pace that honors your boundaries — never watching the clock, never getting ahead of your story.

05

Whole-person care

Mind, body, and — if you wish — spirit. An optional faith lens, offered gently and never imposed.

06

Confidentiality & integrity

What you share stays between us, on secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth. Discretion is non-negotiable.

07

Best-fit, not a template

No rigid protocol. We blend proven methods around your history, values, and goals — plainly and honestly.

What guides us

Our values

Compassion

We meet you where you are — not where anyone thinks you should be. Trust blossoms when you feel genuinely understood.

Clinical honesty

The right counselor won’t always tell you what you want to hear. We’re truthful because your progress depends on it.

Integrity

An 18-year Air Force background shapes how we show up: disciplined, dependable, and fully present.

Dignity

Everyone who walks through the door — especially those who have served — deserves to be treated with honor.
